Military Police Officer Arrested Following Death of Wife in São Paulo

Vinícius Costa Silva, a military police officer, was temporarily arrested on Monday, October 7, after his wife, Larissa Cruz Morata, was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head in their home in Embu das Artes. The 29 year old woman was discovered in the bathroom on Sunday morning. The police officer's weapon was found beneath her body and has been seized for forensics. Silva told authorities that his wife committed suicide following a discussion about the end of their relationship. He claimed he had gone to sleep and woke up to the sound of a gunshot. Delegada Bruna Caracho Crippa stated that the arrest was requested after forensic exams at the Legal Medical Institute revealed inconsistencies in the trajectory of the projectile and the manner of death. The victim's family described her as a joyful person with plans for the future, including a scheduled aesthetic surgery. Her grandmother reported that Larissa had called her between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Sunday to say she was leaving the house with her son.
