Minister Sturzenegger Defends Economic Course and Predicts Milei Reelection

Federico Sturzenegger, the Minister of Deregulation and Transformation of the State, defended the economic direction of President Javier Milei's administration during a presentation at the Council of the Americas. The minister predicted that Milei will be reelected in 2027 and suggested that Argentine assets will see a strong valuation if that happens. Sturzenegger attributed a reduction in poverty to the government's fiscal surplus and claimed that poverty has dropped to 28 percent. He described the current economic growth as unprecedented because it is led by exports and looks toward the global market. He noted that this growth is not uniform across the country, predicting that two million people could move to Neuquén over the next 30 years due to energy and mining opportunities. Regarding financial indicators, Sturzenegger claimed the country risk for a specific bond expiring within Milei's term is 80 basis points, though one source noted this contrasts with the JP Morgan index which was above 500 basis points. Sturzenegger also described himself as a plumber of reforms rather than an academic. He expressed some regret that the private property law was not passed exactly as the government desired, specifically regarding chapters on the Fire Management Law and the sale of land to foreigners. He concluded that maintaining the current course would lead to decades of prosperity.
