The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) announced the results of the Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan for 2025 and 2026 during a ceremony for National Clean Air Day in New Delhi. The survey, conducted under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), recognized various cities and wards for their efforts in improving air quality and environmental management.
In Vijayawada, two wards under the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) received honors. The 60th ward ranked second nationally in the Best Performing Wards category, scoring 190 out of 200 marks. The 31st ward was recognized as the Best Performing Ward at the State level with a full score. VMC Commissioner Dhyanachandra H.M. received the awards from Union Minister Bhupender Yadav, Union Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh, and Secretary Tanmay Kumar. The VMC received a total of 45 lakh rupees in cash prizes, with 30 lakh rupees for the national recognition and 15 lakh rupees for the state recognition. The VMC attributed these results to initiatives such as the production of bricks from construction waste, windrow composting, and the establishment of an Electric Vehicle Charging Station.
Davangere city also secured two State level awards under the Swachh Ward Vayu Survekshan assessment for 2025 to 2026. The city, which is identified as an NCAP non attainment city, saw SS Badavane B Block recognized in Population Category 2 and DCM Township recognized in Population Category 3. The Davangere City Corporation received a cash prize of 25 lakh rupees for its efforts in sanitation and air pollution control.
