Ministry of Interior Reverses Professional Status of Police Conference Featuring Roberto Vannacci

The Department of Public Security has clarified that a police conference in Torino featuring MEP Roberto Vannacci will not count as professional training for State Police officers, nor will the Questore of Torino participate. The event, titled "Urban Insecurity: The Role of Institutions and Entrepreneurs," is scheduled for September 18 at the Hotel NH Torino and is organized by the Fsp-polizia di Stato and Fmpi unions. The Ministry's statement follows a controversy over whether the event met the technical and neutral requirements necessary for professional accreditation.

Opposition figures and the Silp Cgil union had formally requested the revocation of the event's status as professional updating. Silp Cgil argued that the presence of Vannacci, the leader of Futuro Nazionale, violated the neutrality required by the Italian Constitution and the Code of Conduct for public employees. Nicola Fratoianni of Avs called on Interior Minister Piantedosi to explain how Vannacci's ideas could contribute to professional training. Additionally, the Antifascist Front filed a complaint with the Ministry of Defense, requesting a disciplinary investigation into Vannacci, noting that he remains subject to military discipline despite being in the reserve.

While the Ministry now describes the event as a union initiative, some reports highlight a contradiction with previous documents from the Torino Questura. Those documents had reportedly described the event as a "training seminar" and stated that participation would count toward the six annual days available for professional updating. The conference lineup includes Vannacci, Pietro Senaldi of Libero, criminologist Emilio Chiodo, and entrepreneur Francesco Toselli.
