- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
NATO fighter jets shot down a drone that entered Lithuanian airspace on Monday. The interception occurred near the village of Pratkunai, located outside the city of Kaunas, following an alert in the capital city of Vilnius and the surrounding region. According to Lithuania's crisis management centre, the drone originated from neighboring Belarus and was traveling west. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda stated that such readiness is vital given Russia's intensifying aggression against Ukraine.
This incident occurred as Poland also activated its air force as a preventive measure. The Polish military recently recovered a suspected Russian military drone, identified as a Gerbera, from the Baltic Sea near the village of Rusinowo. Polish officials noted that these drones are often used as decoys but can carry explosives.
Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia have experienced repeated drone incursions since the start of the war in Ukraine. In May, a NATO fighter shot down a Ukrainian drone over Estonia. Center-left framing emphasizes the event as a demonstration of allied unity and a clear message of NATO vigilance. Center-right framing focuses on the tactical details of the interception and the broader pattern of airspace violations in the region.
How each side framed it
- Centre-left
- Framed the event as a symbol of allied resolve and a necessary response to Russian aggression.
- Centre-right
- Framed the event as a factual report of a security breach within the context of ongoing regional tensions.
