The Government Railway Police (GRP) have launched an inquiry into the death of a Nigerian national who died while in the custody of Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials at the Surat Railway Station. The man was traveling from Mumbai to Delhi on the Golden Temple Express when he was detained following a brawl with co-passengers near Vapi. Reports indicate the man allegedly sprayed a fire extinguisher on other passengers during the scuffle. After being taken to the RPF office for questioning, the man collapsed and was declared dead on arrival at SMIMER Hospital. A case of accidental death has been registered, and officials are awaiting the postmortem report. Western Railway Superintendent of Police Abhay Soni stated that the deceased had previously been arrested twice in 2018 for cocaine trafficking in Mumbai. The investigation is currently being led by Deputy Superintendent of Police D H Gaur.
