North Korea Warns Japan Following Tomahawk Missile Test

Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, has condemned Japan's recent test firing of a U.S. made Tomahawk cruise missile. In a statement carried by the state run Korean Central News Agency on Wednesday, Kim branded Japan a war criminal state and accused the country of using the test as a tactic to cover its ambition for a military giant. The remarks follow an announcement from Japan's Defense Ministry that the Self Defense Forces conducted their first test firing of the missile from a destroyer. Japan's 2022 national security strategy allows for the acquisition of strike capabilities against enemy missile bases as a self defense measure. Kim stated that North Korea should make Japan regret these moves, though she did not elaborate on specific countermeasures. Al Jazeera reported that Kim also accused the United States of enabling Japan's military buildup by supplying the missiles and supporting the tests.
