Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.

Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.

The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.

Every outlet covering this story shares the same political lean; read with that in mind.

For the first time since October 2002, no member of the Big 3 is ranked in the top 10 of the tennis rankings. This milestone occurred on Monday after Novak Djokovic slipped from ranking five to twelve. Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal previously retired in 2022 and 2024, respectively. Lleyton Hewitt held the number one ranking in October 2002.

Djokovic's ranking drop follows a first round defeat at the U.S. Open against Mariano Navone. The 39 year old lost in a five set match that lasted four hours and 36 minutes, with a final score of 7 6 (5), 5 7, 4 6, 6 2, 6 1. This marked Djokovic's earliest Grand Slam exit in two decades and his first ever first round loss at the U.S. Open.

Following the match, Djokovic cited physical struggles including vomiting, cramping, and pain in his back and shoulder. He committed 70 unforced errors during the performance. Djokovic stated he is currently trying to address his condition and determine how much further he can go in his career.
