Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that approximately 4,000 out of 12,000 apartment buildings in the city have been damaged since the start of the full scale war. According to Klitschko, the city is targeted by cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and drones nearly twice a week. Each attack costs the city budget roughly 500 million hryvnias, which is approximately 11.2 million dollars.
These statements followed a massive Russian strike on the night of August 20. City authorities reported that 15 people were killed and dozens more were injured. The attacks damaged residential buildings, warehouses, critical infrastructure, a school, and a children's hospital. August 21 was declared a day of mourning in the city.
Klitschko noted that the city faces a funding deficit while attempting to restore damaged homes, build more purpose built bomb shelters, and prepare heating systems for the cold season.
