Over 100,000 Sign Complaint Against Fifa President Gianni Infantino

More than 100,000 people have signed a complaint calling for an investigation into Fifa President Gianni Infantino for alleged ethical violations. The complaint, submitted to the Fifa Ethics Committee by the human rights organization FairSquare and the Reboot Fifa campaign, accuses Infantino of abusing his power, violating his duty of loyalty, and failing to maintain political neutrality through his ties to U.S. President Donald Trump.

The complaint lists eight specific incidents. These include the awarding of a Fifa Peace Prize to Trump, Infantino's involvement in Trump's Board of Peace in the Middle East, and a request from Trump to review a red card given to U.S. striker Folarin Balogun during the World Cup. The organizers also cite the aborted Fifa Forward Enterprise scheme, which sought to sell stakes in Fifa events to private equity investors.

FairSquare is seeking a two year ban from football activities for Infantino. The organization noted that a previous complaint filed in December of last year received no update from the Ethics Committee. Additionally, the International Olympic Committee previously rejected a complaint regarding Infantino's support for Trump, stating the matter fell outside its jurisdiction.

Fifa responded by stating that there is a concerted effort by some to undermine the organization and its president. The entity added that those lacking support from member associations should not use misinformation to achieve what they cannot through democratic processes. Meanwhile, Infantino is seeking re-election for a fourth term in March, despite calls from Uefa for him to stand down.
