Pakistan Captain Fatima Sana Fined by ICC for Gesture Toward Indian Batter

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana has been fined 10 percent of her match fee and handed one demerit point by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for a breach of the Code of Conduct. The sanction follows a Women's Asia Cup match against India where Sana gestured toward the pavilion after dismissing Indian opener Shafali Verma. The ICC determined that Sana breached Article 2.5 of the code, which prohibits using language, actions, or gestures that disparage or could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon dismissal.

Sana admitted to the offence and accepted the sanctions proposed by match referee Supriya Rani Das, removing the need for a formal hearing. This incident marks her second offence in a 24 month period, with a previous offence occurring during a match against Ireland in August 2025. Under ICC rules, Level 1 breaches can result in penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a maximum of 50 percent of a match fee and up to two demerit points.
