Free agent pitcher Go Woo-suk is reuniting with his former Korea Baseball Organization club, the LG Twins, following a brief period in Major League Baseball. An official with the LG Twins stated on Tuesday that the 28 year old pitcher is returning to Seoul and could sign a deal by the end of the day.
Go became a free agent after refusing an assignment to the Triple A St. Paul Saints. He had been designated for assignment by the Minnesota Twins last Friday. Because Go had previously been outrighted during his career, specifically by the Miami Marlins in May 2024, he held the right to refuse the minor league assignment and enter free agency.
Go previously played for the LG Twins from 2017 to 2023. During that time, he served as their full time closer starting in 2019 and recorded 139 saves over five seasons, the highest total for any KBO closer in that period.
His transition to the United States began in January 2024 when he signed with the San Diego Padres. After moving through multiple organizations, he made his MLB debut with the Minnesota Twins on July 9. His tenure with Minnesota included four games where he posted a 9.00 ERA. While playing for the St. Paul Saints, Go was suspended for eight games after being ejected for having an illegal substance in his glove. Following the suspension, he recorded a 12.54 ERA over eight outings.
The LG Twins currently hold fourth place with a record of 64 wins, 51 losses, and one tie. The team has struggled with pitching injuries, including season ending elbow surgery for closer You Young chan and a shoulder injury for veteran Kim Jin sung. Although Go is expected to bolster the bullpen, he is ineligible for the postseason because he was not on an active roster by the July 31 deadline.
