PM Modi Urges BJP Cadre and Ministers to Renew Public Outreach

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has instructed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) cadre and Union ministers to intensify their public outreach and strengthen connections with the electorate. During a four hour meeting with new BJP office bearers, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for newer ideas to solve contemporary problems and urged the team to hit the ground running. This directive follows internal assessments and feedback from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) suggesting that a sense of complacency or hubris may have emerged after consecutive election wins, with some elected representatives spending less time in their constituencies.

The outreach effort specifically targets the younger demographic, with the Prime Minister asking ministers to visit schools and public universities. This move aims to blunt public anger regarding inflation, employment issues, and discrepancies in examinations, such as paper leaks. The BJP faces increasing pressure from opposition groups, including the Congress party, the Samajwadi Party, and the Aam Aadmi Party, as elections in five states approach.

While the directive seeks to bridge gaps with the public, some BJP leaders have expressed concern that visiting universities could lead to planned confrontations or encourage more pressure groups to protest. Some party functionaries worry that this approach might alienate the party's core constituency. Meanwhile, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has noted that the grievances of Gen Z are genuine.
