The Delhi High Court on Monday issued notices and summons to political commentator Abhijit Iyer Mitra, X, Google, and several media platforms following a privacy plea filed by Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurav Das. Das alleges that the defendants violated his privacy by publishing his residential address and other personal information in the public domain. He is seeking damages of over 2 crore rupees and an injunction to prevent further dissemination of the content.
According to the suit, representatives of The Pamphlet trespassed onto Das's rented property in Greater Kailash on August 5, where they recorded the interiors and posted the footage on X. The video reportedly garnered more than 2.1 million views. Das further alleges that Mitra disclosed his residential details during a LawBeat program by identifying a neighbor and incorrectly stating that the monthly rent was approximately 7 lakh rupees.
During the proceedings, X informed the court that posts containing the residential address and personal information of Das had been taken down and were no longer accessible. The lawyer for The Pamphlet also noted that the posts were inaccessible but requested time to file a response on the merits of the case. Mitra's lawyer opposed the suit, arguing that there was no cause of action against him.
