A police officer in San Juan was arrested after he allegedly stole a colleague's credit card to make purchases. The incident came to light when the victim noticed an unauthorized transaction on his account and contacted the merchant. The store owner informed the victim that the customer had been wearing a police uniform. Upon reviewing the store's security cameras, the victim recognized the suspect as a fellow officer from the 17th precinct in the Chimbas department.
Prosecutors from the UFI of Special Crimes identified the security footage as key evidence showing the fraudulent activity. Following a request from prosecutors, a judge issued a detention order. The suspect was arrested while on duty at the Chimbas station; he was subsequently stripped of his weapon and transferred to the 28th precinct. A formalization hearing is expected to take place in the coming days.
