A police officer shot and killed his wife, a kindergarten teacher, on Wednesday morning at the Nong Pla Lai municipal school in Chonburi province. The victim, identified as 48 year old Pailin Thongthat, was shot in the back of the neck in the passage of the school canteen. The gunman, identified as Pol Sub Lt Tasapong Thongthat, a patrol officer at the Bang Lamung station, fled the scene in a car. Forty four students and several staff members were evacuated safely from the school. Following the incident, the Chonburi Governor ordered the school to be closed and requested mental health experts to support the students and staff. Armed officers surrounded the suspect's home in the Flower Park Villa 2 housing estate to persuade him to surrender. The motive for the shooting has not yet been established. This event marks the third school shooting in Thailand in just over a month.
