  • A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.

Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.

Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.

The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted between August 14 and 17 found that a majority of Americans believe President Donald Trump and his family have inappropriately profited from cryptocurrency since his return to power. According to the survey, 69 percent of respondents believe the president's private business interests influence his official decisions. This sentiment includes nine in 10 Democrats and seven in 10 independents. While a majority of Republicans believe the president and his family have a right to earn from cryptocurrency, nearly half of Republican respondents believe he has used his power to inflate those gains.

Trump earned more than 1.4 billion dollars last year from family cryptocurrency ventures, including World Liberty Financial and various meme coins. In March 2025, the president promoted his own branded coin on social media, calling it the greatest of them all. His administration has also implemented crypto friendly policies, including the creation of a strategic bitcoin reserve and allowing banks to trade cryptocurrencies more freely.

The White House has denied any conflicts of interest. Spokeswoman Anna Kelly stated that the president's investments are managed by independent financial institutions and that he acts only in the best interests of the American public. However, Richard Painter, an ethics lawyer for George W. Bush, told Reuters that the current intersection of business and politics is unprecedented and more complex than during Trump's first term.

Reporting on the poll differed based on political framing. The center left source emphasized the contradiction between these findings and Trump's campaign promises to clean up Washington corruption. The center right source focused more on the specific policy actions taken by the administration to favor digital assets and the specific breakdown of support among different voter blocs.

How each side framed it

Centre-left
Framed the story as a failure of the president's pledge to end government corruption.
Centre-right
Framed the story around the specific data of the survey and the administration's pro crypto policy shifts.
