A Bengaluru court on Tuesday remanded former MP Prajwal Revanna and his prison mate, Prathap Rai, to two days of police custody. The decision follows allegations that a mobile phone was used illegally inside the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison. The duo was produced before the 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court after police obtained a body warrant for further investigation.
The case began after the Central Crime Branch conducted a raid on August 11 and recovered a smartphone from Revanna. The device reportedly contained applications such as Facebook and WhatsApp and was sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for examination. Investigators believe the phone was used to communicate with Revanna's lawyers and family members, and they found that the SIM card was procured from Andhra Pradesh.
Police are now working to determine how the device entered the prison and whether any prison personnel facilitated the access. In the First Information Report, Prathap Rai is named as Accused No. 1 and Prajwal Revanna as Accused No. 2. Revanna is currently serving a life sentence for a rape case, while Rai is an undertrial in a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
