President Abelardo de la Espriella Implements Personnel Purge and Itinerant Governance

President Abelardo de la Espriella has declared five former officials from the Gustavo Petro administration insubsistent after they refused to resign. Among those removed are Milver Rojas, former director of the National Narcotics Fund, and Wilmar Mejía, former head of the Financial Information and Analysis Unit. The removals are part of a broader effort to clean the state structure of holdovers from the previous administration. In the Ministry of Equality, liquidator John Milton Rodríguez ordered the removal of four vice ministers, including Tamara Ospina and Pablo Zabala, who were declared insubsistent after refusing to step down. Other departures include Letty Leal from the Administrative Department of the Presidency and Amelia Pérez from the Special Assets Society. Parallel to these personnel changes, the president is operating an itinerant presidency. While he initially intended for the Palacio de San Carlos to be his main office in Bogota and the Casa de Nariño to become a museum, he has since returned to the Casa de Nariño. His primary base of operations is currently the Batallón Paraíso in Barranquilla, where he holds major meetings. His schedule is described as intense and often improvised, involving frequent travel between Barranquilla and various regions. Additionally, the government recently defended a military operation against the Calarcá dissidents that resulted in the deaths of three minors, an action supported by both the president and Defense Minister Jorge Mora.
