President Abelardo de la Espriella Orders Transfer of 20 Inmates from Barranquilla

President Abelardo de la Espriella ordered the transfer of 20 inmates from Barranquilla to Bogotá on Tuesday, August 25. The group consists of ten individuals held in police stations and ten from the District Jail of High Criminal Power. While the inmates will first arrive in Bogotá, the Inpec is tasked with distributing them to various prisons across the country within the next 15 days. The president stated that the measure aims to prevent the coordination of extortions, threats, and other criminal activities from within detention centers. Local leaders, including Mayor Alejandro Char and Governor Eduardo Verano, expressed support for the move, with Char emphasizing the need to disconnect criminals from the outside world. Several of the transferred individuals are alleged members of the rival gangs Los Costeños and Los Pepes. Identified inmates include Rodrigo Javier Pantoja Linero, known as El Gamo, and Brayan Camilo Lobo Guerrero, known as El Lobo.
