President De la Espriella and Business Leaders Agree to Lower Housing Loan Rates for Earthquake Victims

President Abelardo de la Espriella met with a group of prominent business leaders at the alternate presidential headquarters in Barranquilla to secure a reduction in housing loan rates for earthquake victims. The heads of several major banks, including Luis Carlos Sarmiento of Grupo Aval, Jaime and Gabriel Gilinski of Banco GNB Sudameris, Miguel Cortés of Grupo Bolívar, and Juan Carlos Mora of Bancolombia, agreed to lower the effective annual rate to 8 percent for the entire life of the credits. Bancolombia had announced this reduction hours before the meeting took place. President De la Espriella stated that this decision proves it is possible to lower interest rates and facilitate credit access for Colombians.

The meeting included other figures such as Alejandro Santo Domingo, Fuad Char, César Caicedo, and Joaquín Gutiérrez.
