President Lula and Senate President Alcolumbre Hold Third Meeting to Restore Political Alliance

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Senate President Davi Alcolumbre met for a third time in ten days on Friday morning at the Palácio da Alvorada. This series of meetings marks a rapprochement between the two leaders following a three month rupture. The conflict began after the Senate rejected Lula's nomination of Attorney General Jorge Messias for a seat on the Supreme Federal Court. Reports indicate that Alcolumbre had preferred the nomination of Senator Rodrigo Pacheco for that position.

The restoration of dialogue began with a dinner on the 4th of the month hosted by Supreme Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes. A second meeting took place on Wednesday with Minister José Guimarães and Senator Teresa Leitão. Following these discussions, Guimarães stated that the relationship is now unlocked and that the meetings represent a milestone for advancing the executive branch's agenda in Congress.

A primary objective for the Lula administration is the approval of a project to end the 6x1 work schedule, which has passed the Chamber of Deputies but remains stalled in the Senate. The government is also seeking the approval of a Public Security PEC to increase federal power in that sector. In exchange, Alcolumbre is seeking to secure his position for a future term as Senate president.
