Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni Celebrates Government Longevity in Bari and Visits Storm-Hit Policoro

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni held a large rally in Bari to celebrate her administration as the longest serving government in the history of the Italian Republic. Speaking before approximately 10,000 people, Meloni outlined her vision for the South of Italy, stating that the region should be a destination rather than a place people leave. She rejected the idea that the South is merely a reservoir of votes or a problem to be solved, arguing instead that it can become the locomotive of Italy. Meloni highlighted investments in infrastructure and the Zes Unica, claiming that the South's GDP and employment are growing faster than the national average.

During the Bari event, Meloni addressed the complex situation of the ex Ilva plant in Taranto and condemned the femicide of Lorena Isceri, stating that such crimes occur because women dare to be free. She also defended her government against criticisms regarding healthcare waiting lists, asserting that the issue existed long before her term began and was left by the left. The rally was attended by several ministers and party officials, with supporters arriving by bus from across Italy.

Following the event in Bari, Meloni traveled to Policoro in Basilicata to visit areas damaged by a violent cloudburst and tornado that occurred on September 2. Accompanied by Governor Vito Bardi, she visited damaged tourist facilities and businesses. Meloni praised the resilience of the local community and reiterated her commitment to the South, emphasizing that the government's focus on the region is a long term strategy rather than a campaign tactic.
