Protesters gathered in Brasília on Monday, October 7, to demand the removal of Supreme Federal Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes. The demonstrations took place amid a crisis within the court following Justice André Mendonça's decision to lift the secrecy of conversations between Justice Moraes and banker Daniel Vorcaro. One primary protest occurred in front of the Central Bank, where participants chanted slogans calling for the removal of both Justice Moraes and Senate President Davi Alcolumbre.
The Central Bank protest was convened by former judge Sebastião Coelho, a candidate for the Senate for the Federal District. Senator Eduardo Girão, a vice presidential candidate for the Novo party, also attended and described the act as a spontaneous movement to pressure institutions against abuses of power. Senator Izalci Lucas of the PL party joined the demonstration, calling for the removal of both Justice Moraes and President Lula.
A second demonstration was organized by the Liberal Party (PL) to show support for Justice André Mendonça and to call for the impeachment of Justice Moraes. During this event, Federal Deputy Bia Kicis spoke against perceived maneuvers to persecute Justice Mendonça, and the daughter of a prisoner from the January 8 events spoke in memory of her father.
