Pedro Uczai, the leader of the Workers Party (PT) in the Chamber of Deputies, was discharged from the DF Star hospital on Tuesday, August 18. The congressman had been hospitalized for over a week after suffering an ischemic stroke during a meeting of the College of Leaders. According to medical reports and his office, Uczai remained conscious and oriented throughout his stay, showing no evidence of neurological deficit. He will continue to undergo routine exams and medical follow up.
The incident occurred on August 11 and caused disruptions to the legislative agenda. The president of the Chamber, Hugo Motta, canceled the plenary session scheduled for that date. During his hospitalization, Uczai received visits from Motta and Representative Jandira Feghali, both of whom are physicians.
Uczai, a 63 year old university professor, is currently seeking re-election. While he expressed gratitude for the support received in a social media video, his official Instagram account continued to post campaign materials during his recovery, indicating he does not intend to withdraw from the race.
