Rahul Gandhi Urges Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren to Personally Meet Protesting Students

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has written to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, suggesting that the chief minister personally meet students protesting against alleged irregularities in state recruitment examinations. In a letter dated August 14, Gandhi stated that the protests have been peaceful and the demands are legitimate. He noted that while the government has reached agreements on several demands, some students remain on an indefinite hunger strike.

The protests concern irregularities in examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). According to reports, the Jharkhand Police Crime Investigation Department has arrested 20 people, including the former JPSC chairman. While the government agreed to cancel three examinations on August 9, students continue to demand the cancellation of the Combined Graduate Level examination. The government has declined this specific request, citing monitoring by the Supreme Court and the Jharkhand High Court, and has instead proposed a high level judicial inquiry.

In his letter, Gandhi criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), alleging that they have captured the Indian education system and transformed it into a tool for the exploitation and oppression of students. He asserted that the system is no longer the robust knowledge system it was a decade ago.
