Rajasthan Urban Local Body Elections Conclude with Approximately 70 Percent Turnout

The second and final phase of urban local body elections in Rajasthan concluded on September 11, 2026, with voter turnout recorded between 70.01 percent and 70.68 percent. The State Election Commission reported that 61.35 lakh of 87.63 lakh voters participated in this phase, which covered six Municipal Corporations, 24 Municipal Councils, and 117 municipalities. High turnout was noted in districts such as Balotra, Jhalawar, Hanumangarh, and Khairthal-Tijara, where figures ranged from 88 percent to 91 percent. In the capital city of Jaipur, the turnout was 62.88 percent, marking the highest percentage ever recorded for the city. Among the Municipal Corporations, Jodhpur saw the highest turnout at 71.10 percent, while Kota recorded the lowest at 57.02 percent.

While the polling was described as largely peaceful, reports emerged of electronic voting machine glitches, forced entries into booths, and clashes between rival political party workers. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma cast his vote in Jaipur, stating that every vote strengthens the foundation of city development. Conversely, former Chief Minister and Congress leader Ashok Gehlot, who voted in Jodhpur, described the situation in Rajasthan as very serious and claimed the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has failed to develop urban areas over the last two and a half years.
