Rangers Exit Europa League as Derek McInnes Remains Winless

Rangers have been knocked out of the Europa League third qualifying round following a 1-1 draw at Ibrox against Jagiellonia Bialystok, resulting in a 3-2 aggregate defeat. The result marks a winless start to the season for manager Derek McInnes, who has failed to secure a victory in his first four competitive matches. Rangers will now enter the Conference League playoff round to face the Czech side Jablonec.

During the match, captain Lawrence Shankland scored a penalty in the 19th minute to level the aggregate score, but Nik Prelec equalized for the visitors in the 65th minute. Frustrated home fans booed the team at full time. McInnes admitted the second half performance was not good enough and stated that the team is not yet ready for the quality required for the Champions League or Europa League. He noted that the club is working to recruit necessary players, including winger Couhaib Driouech, following a long term knee injury to Youssef Chermiti.

Tactical decisions became a point of contention after McInnes replaced midfielder Thelo Aasgaard with full back Ross McCrorie, shifting from a three man defense to a four man defense. While McInnes argued the change was intended to involve wingers higher up the pitch, former midfielder Andy Halliday suggested the move caused the team to lose control of the midfield.

Other Scottish clubs also saw Europa League exits. Hearts drew 1-1 with Benfica but lost 7-2 on aggregate, while Hibernian advanced to the Conference League playoffs after a 2-1 aggregate win over Shkendija.
