Real Madrid defender Raúl Asencio has been convicted of a crime against road safety after admitting he drove under the influence of alcohol in Gran Canaria. The 23 year old player was stopped by police at 6:30 a.m. on August 16 while driving a Porsche Macan GTS in San Bartolomé de Tirajana. A breathalyzer test showed 0.90 mg/l of alcohol in his breath, which is nearly four times the legal limit. Under the Spanish Penal Code, levels above 0.60 mg/l are classified as a crime. Asencio was ordered to pay a fine of 14,400 euros and received an eight month suspension of his driver's license.
Asencio is also facing a separate legal battle regarding the distribution of non consensual sexual recordings. He and three other athletes linked to Real Madrid are accused of sharing videos of two women, one of whom was 16 years old, filmed at a beach club in June 2023. While prosecutors state Asencio did not participate in the sexual encounter or the recording, he is accused of distributing the images. The prosecution is seeking a prison sentence of two years and six months and one day, along with a fine and an indemnity of 10,000 euros. The trial for this case is scheduled for early September in Las Palmas.
