Reform UK has received a 36 million pound donation from British cryptocurrency billionaire Ben Delo, marking the largest single donation ever given to a political party in the United Kingdom. Delo, the founder of the trading platform BitMEX, announced the gift in the Daily Telegraph. He stated that the sum represents a commitment of 1 million pounds per month until the next general election, which could be held as late as August 2029. Delo chose to provide the funds upfront to prevent the government from limiting such donations in the future. Ben Delo has a legal history in the United States. In 2022, he pleaded guilty to violating the Bank Secrecy Act for failing to implement adequate anti money laundering controls at BitMEX. He was later granted an unconditional pardon by former US President Donald Trump. Delo, who has previously donated 4 million pounds to the party, has expressed a desire to move back to the UK from Hong Kong to continue his support. The Metropolitan Police are investigating allegations that the party breached foreign funding laws, following an undercover report by Channel 4 News. Additionally, Nigel Farage is under investigation by the parliamentary standards commissioner regarding a 5 million pound personal gift from another crypto investor, Christopher Harborne. Harborne previously gave a record 9 million pound donation to the party.
