Renowned Brazilian artist Regina Silveira will next week inaugurate a monumental work at the Sesi Lab in Brasília. The installation consists of 530 square meters of vinyl adhesives covering the facade of the building, which was designed by Oscar Niemeyer, to create the appearance of sewn fabric. This project follows similar interventions by Silveira at the Masp in São Paulo, the Palácio das Artes in Belo Horizonte, and a museum in Mexico.
The exhibition aims to highlight the tactile sensation in art, contrasting physical contact between artist and matter with the modern dominance of digital screens and artificial intelligence. The show also features a 100 square meter digital panel titled "Dígito." This piece is a high tech reincarnation of a 1980s work originally created with lamps on São Paulo's Avenida São João, depicting a finger that evokes the biblical figure of Saint Thomas.
In separate news, the Museu Afro Brasil in São Paulo and the Museu Nacional da Cultura Afro-Brasileira in Salvador will each receive 400,000 reais via the Lei Rouanet. Sponsored by the infrastructure concessionaire Motiva, these funds are intended to improve public accessibility and educational programs.
