- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
Retail sales in both South Korea and Taiwan saw annual increases in July, driven largely by summer vacation spending and travel related demand. In South Korea, retail sales rose 6.4 percent from a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources. This growth was supported by a 17.9 percent increase in department store sales and an 8.5 percent jump in online sales, which were led by food delivery services and home appliances. Online platforms accounted for 60.8 percent of total retail sales in South Korea for the month.
In Taiwan, retail sales increased 7.7 percent year on year to NT$418.3 billion, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs. This growth was led by a 12.6 percent rise in the purchase of cars, motorcycles, and auto parts, while department store sales rose 9.6 percent. Food and beverage sales in Taiwan also rose 2.5 percent to NT$88.7 billion, though this figure fell below the ministry's projections due to the impact of Typhoon Bavi. Both regions reported that summer break activities and dining out contributed to the positive trends in retail and service sectors.
