Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.

Russia and Ukraine launched new attacks against each other on Sunday while maintaining a localized truce to protect their respective capitals during a visit by US emissaries Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The emissaries are scheduled to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv after previously holding talks with President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. The agreed 72 hour pause applies only to the capitals, allowing military operations to continue in other regions.
Russian forces launched 108 drones against Ukraine. Ukrainian officials reported that 82 drones were neutralized, but impacts were recorded in 11 locations. In Zaporizhzhia, a 74 year old man was killed and three others were wounded. In the Kharkiv region, a drone strike in Chuhuiv killed three members of one family. Other strikes hit Khmelnytskyi, where seven people were injured in a residential building, and Kherson, where a family was injured. A border crossing between Romania and Ukraine was also temporarily closed due to an attack.
Ukraine simultaneously increased its drone operations against Russian territory. Russian defense systems claimed to have shot down 258 drones across 14 regions, including Crimea and the Black and Azov seas. Reports indicate a drone caused a fire at a Rosneft oil refinery in the Ryazan region, which is less than 200 kilometers from Moscow. In the Rostov region, drone fragments hit a train locomotive, causing temporary passenger service disruptions. In the Belgorod region, a drone strike on a vehicle reportedly killed one man and seriously injured a woman.
Outlets with a center right lean framed the event as a mutual exchange of attacks occurring despite the diplomatic efforts of the US emissaries. In contrast, the center left outlet focused primarily on the scale and humanitarian impact of the Russian strikes on Ukrainian civilians and infrastructure.
How each side framed it
- Centre-left
- Focused heavily on the Russian offensive and the resulting civilian casualties in Ukraine.
- Centre-right
- Framed the event as a reciprocal exchange of attacks occurring alongside US diplomatic mediation.
