Russian Attacks Kill Three in Ukraine During US Envoy Meetings with Putin

Russian attacks across Ukraine killed at least three people and injured more than 20 others on September 5. The fatalities occurred in Chuhuiv, Kharkiv Oblast, where a drone strike destroyed a house, a warehouse, and a garage. The victims included an 11 year old boy, a 19 year old woman, and a 45 year old man. Other strikes targeted Zaporizhzhia, where drones hit a high rise residential building and an administrative building, and Khmelnytskyi, where drone debris injured seven people. Additionally, Russian drones attacked a passenger train bound for Kherson, damaging two diesel locomotives and injuring a railway worker.

These events took place as U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow to discuss ending the war. Prior to the meetings, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Putin had ordered a three day halt on strikes against Kyiv. However, Putin informed the U.S. envoys that Russia had not agreed to a broader ceasefire proposal from Ukraine that would include the front lines. Ukraine indicated it was prepared to refrain from strikes on Moscow during the visit and called for reciprocity.
