Russian Drone Attacks Hit Kyiv for Seventh Consecutive Day

Russian drone attacks struck Kyiv for the seventh consecutive day on September 2, causing injuries and damaging civilian infrastructure. In the morning, strikes hit a university, a residential building, and a medical facility in central Kyiv, leaving at least 13 people injured. Later that evening, further explosions were reported in the capital as air defense units worked to repel inbound drones. In Odesa Oblast, Governor Oleh Kiper reported that at least 17 people, including three children, were injured when an attack damaged a high rise residential building and several cars. President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a new aerial alert system in response to the onslaught, which will divide alerts into red and yellow levels to distinguish between missile and drone threats.

In other developments, a shootout occurred in Kyiv between the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and a unit of the Defense Forces during an investigation into an alleged Russian FSB plot. The plot reportedly targeted Stepan Kaplunov, deputy commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps. President Zelensky described the incident as a disgraceful situation and ordered an investigation to hold those responsible accountable. Additionally, President Zelensky appointed Sviatoslav Zaiets as the new commander of Ukraine's Ground Forces, replacing Hennadii Shapovalov.
