- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
At least 17 people were killed and 44 injured in a massive Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv and the surrounding region during the night of August 5. According to Ukrainian officials, the barrage included 24 Iskander M ballistic missiles, four Zircon or Onyx hypersonic missiles, and 115 drones. Ukrainian air defense forces reported that while 98 drones were intercepted, they failed to shoot down a single missile. President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the targets included civilian logistics facilities, a brewery, and a railway station, while the Russian Defense Ministry claimed the strikes targeted military logistics and distribution centers. Zelensky emphasized that a critical shortage of Patriot interceptor missiles contributed to the casualties.
In a separate incident, German police opened a terrorism probe after an explosive drone was found near a runway at Leipzig Halle airport. The drone, which contained homemade explosives made from gasoline and fertilizer, was found near a Ukrainian Antonov cargo aircraft. Additionally, a DHL cargo plane was forced to make an unscheduled landing in Hanover after colliding with an unidentified object during takeoff from Leipzig. German authorities are investigating the incidents, with some reports suggesting a pattern of Russian hybrid warfare to test European defenses, though the Kremlin has denied involvement.
Within Russia, Vladimir Tkachuk, the director of the drone manufacturer Uraldronzavod, was seriously injured in a car bombing in the Yekaterinburg region. His driver was killed in the explosion. This follows a series of Ukrainian drone attacks targeting warehouses belonging to the Russian online retailer Wildberries, including a facility in the Tula region. Ukrainian sources suggest these warehouses are used for military logistics, while Russian authorities describe them as commercial targets.
