Russian Strikes Hit Kramatorsk and Bilenke; NATO Allies Intercept Drone in Latvia

Russian forces launched a series of aerial strikes on the city of Kramatorsk and the village of Bilenke in the Donetsk region on the evening of August 13. According to Donetsk Governor Vadym Filashkin, the attacks killed one person and injured 15 others. The strikes hit residential buildings, including a multistory apartment building in Kramatorsk that partially collapsed and caught fire. Filashkin urged local residents to evacuate to safer regions of Ukraine. Additionally, a Russian strike in the Zaporizhzhia region injured two people, including a five year old child.

In a separate development, the Latvian military reported that NATO allied fighter jets shot down a foreign drone that entered Latvian airspace during the early hours of Friday. The incident occurred in the Balvi region. While the Latvian military did not specify the origin of the drone, it warned that such intrusions may continue as long as the Russian aggression in Ukraine persists. Simultaneously, the Finnish Defense Forces established a temporary restriction on airspace and maritime traffic in the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland to ensure safety and operational capacity against potential drones.

Other reports indicate that Russian authorities in the Leningrad region claimed to have shot down over 50 Ukrainian drones overnight, reporting a fire at the port of Ust Luga. Ukrainian forces also claimed to have conducted aerial attacks against Russian military targets, including a Nebo U radar station in Sevastopol.
