Sandile Zungu Alleges Electoral Fraud Ahead of Safa Presidential Election

Sandile Zungu, the president of AmaZulu FC and a candidate for the South African Football Association (Safa) presidency, has accused the administration of incumbent president Danny Jordaan of using financial inducements and electoral fraud to maintain power. Speaking at a media briefing on Monday, Zungu alleged that regions supporting leadership changes have been deliberately disqualified from participating in the elective congress scheduled for Saturday in Midrand. Zungu stated that he is consulting with legal counsel regarding these disqualifications and mentioned criminal charges laid in the Northern Cape against the Safa president and CEO Lydia Monyepao for alleged constitutional fraud.

Zungu framed his candidacy as a necessary structural overhaul to end a culture of mediocrity and elevate South African football to global dominance. He expressed the ambition for South Africa to become the first nation to win both the Fifa Men's and Women's World Cups. The election comes amid broader scrutiny, including testimony from Safa vice president Bennett Bailey to a parliamentary portfolio committee regarding irregularities in regional vetting processes. This has led to calls from Patriotic Alliance MP Marlon Daniels for the postponement of the congress.
