- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
Every outlet covering this story shares the same political lean; read with that in mind.
The XIII South American Games officially began on Saturday with an opening ceremony held at the Monumento a la Bandera in Rosario, Argentina. The multidisciplinary sporting event will run until September 26, with competitions taking place across three host cities: Rosario, Santa Fe, and Rafaela. Approximately 4,000 athletes from 15 countries are participating in 43 sports and 60 disciplines. Many of these events serve as qualifiers for the Lima 2027 Pan American Games and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic cycle.
The opening ceremony featured performances by various artists, including Abel Pintos, Soledad Pastorutti, Luck Ra, Valentino Merlo, Juan Carlos Baglietto, and Cacho Deicas. A key symbolic moment occurred when Luciana Aymar, a legendary Argentine hockey player, lit the Olympic torch. During the event, Mario Moccia, president of the South American Sports Organization (Odesur), emphasized the role of sport in uniting people beyond their differences, while Santa Fe Governor Maximiliano Pullaro welcomed the athletes and noted the magnitude of the event.
Competition officially begins on Sunday, September 14, with events in open water swimming, fencing, boxing, and beach volleyball. Argentina will be represented by 658 athletes, while Team Chile arrives with a delegation of 533 athletes, led by flag bearers Manuela Urroz and Emanuelle Silva. Coverage of the games is being provided by TyC Sports, Dsports, Disney+, and the Panam Sports Channel.
