São Paulo Announces 182km Interparques Trail for Cyclists

The City of São Paulo announced the Trilha Interparques in April 2025. This 182 kilometer route connects various municipal and state conservation units, reservoirs, and private reserves located in the south zone of the city. Renata Falzoni, a journalist and PSB city councilor, describes the route as a mix of paved sections and single track trails that allow only one bicycle to pass at a time.

While the trail is officially recognized, challenges remain regarding safety and infrastructure. Some sections, such as the initial access at Balsa da Ilha do Bororé, have been reported as dangerous due to intense two way traffic and a lack of shoulders. Falzoni notes that the current experience often requires using cars or ride sharing services to move between different segments of the trail. She argues that the legal existence of the route now provides the political justification needed to implement traffic calming measures and better signage.

The officialization of the trail has spurred local economic growth. New guesthouses and services for cyclists have emerged along the route. Additionally, a trend of people returning to ancestral lands in the south zone during the pandemic has led to an increase in local production of goods such as honey, mushrooms, and jams.
