Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.

Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.

The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.

Every source for this story reports from South Korea.

Seoul stocks opened sharply lower on Monday, September 14, as geopolitical uncertainties in the Middle East drove up oil prices and dampened investor sentiment. The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) opened down over 3 percent, reaching 6,694.56 as of 9:16 a.m. which represented a decline of 215.35 points. By late Monday morning, the KOSPI was trading at 6,758.64, down 151.27 points or 2.19 percent as of 11:27 a.m.

The market decline followed the announcement by the Omani foreign minister that a meeting between Gulf diplomats and Iran officials to discuss reopening the Strait of Hormuz had been indefinitely suspended. This news bucked recent gains on Wall Street, where the S&P 500 had added 0.86 percent and the Nasdaq had risen 0.96 percent on Friday. Later reports also cited warnings from artificial intelligence firm executives regarding the pace of technology development as a contributing factor to the downturn.

Major market capitalization stocks saw significant losses. Samsung Electronics fell between 2.31 percent and 3.37 percent, while SK hynix declined between 4.3 percent and 5.02 percent. Hyundai Motor dropped between 3.01 percent and 4.05 percent, and LG Energy Solution dipped between 1.11 percent and 2.22 percent. Conversely, defense giant Hanwha Aerospace saw gains, rising between 1.39 percent and 4.07 percent. The Korean won was trading at 1,346.8 won against the U.S. dollar early in the session, later quoted at 1,344.3 won.
