Seven Year Old Boy Killed in Mumbai Dahi Handi Accident

A seven year old boy died in Mumbai on Saturday afternoon after a brick column of a single storey structure collapsed during Dahi Handi celebrations. The incident occurred at approximately 3:01 pm at the Ekta Welfare Society in Malad Malvani. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, a rope holding the Dahi Handi pot had been tied between a tree and a brick column of a house. The column gave way under pressure while children were attempting to break the pot, striking the boy, identified as Rudra Kadam, in the head. He was declared dead at Malvani General Hospital.

In addition to the fatality, at least 32 participants, known as Govindas, were injured across Mumbai while forming human pyramids. Four of these individuals received treatment at civic hospitals while others were discharged. Another report noted that 10 people were injured in neighboring Thane. In a separate incident in Pune, a woman named Salma Salauddin Pathan died after a temporary iron frame used for loudspeakers collapsed on her during the dismantling process following an event.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde responded to the festivities by urging participants to prioritize safety over record breaking pyramids. He stated that Govindas should practice discipline and mutual care to ensure that no one is injured during the celebrations.
