The Civil Defense of São Paulo has issued a severe alert for heavy rains, intense wind gusts, and hail following the formation of an extratropical cyclone off the coast of Paraná. On Friday, wind speeds reached up to 88 km/h in the interior and 85 km/h on the coast. These conditions left approximately 127,000 properties without power in the Greater São Paulo region, with Embu-Guaçu being among the hardest hit. In the capital, around 57,000 users lost power, though this represented less than 1 percent of the city's total customers. Other impacts included the collapse of a house in Sapopemba and disruptions to metropolitan train lines 7-rubi and 11-coral due to fallen trees and power failures. To manage the situation, the Civil Defense established a Crisis Cabinet at the Emergency Management Center (CGE) to coordinate responses with the Fire Department, Military Police, and utility companies. Meteorological agencies including Inmet and Climatempo warn that the unstable weather will persist through the weekend, with potential rainfall of up to 100 mm per day and wind gusts up to 100 km/h in parts of São Paulo, Paraná, and Mato Grosso do Sul. Residents are advised to seek safe shelter and avoid open areas or vulnerable structures.
