Air quality in Singapore is forecast to be between the high moderate and low unhealthy range over the 24 hours following 6pm on September 6. This follows a period where the 24 hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) reached unhealthy levels in several regions, marking the first time since October 2023 that the PSI exceeded 100.
As of Sunday evening, the 24 hour PSI remained in the moderate range. Readings were reported between 72 and 91 by one source and between 73 and 87 by another. The National Environment Agency (NEA) noted that fair and windy conditions occurred over Singapore on Sunday, though dry conditions are expected to persist in the region.
Moderate to dense smoke plumes from fires in West Kalimantan and southern and central Sumatra continue to drift toward Singapore. The NEA stated that there remains a risk of haze affecting the city state if these fires persist, especially with prevailing winds blowing from the south or southeast.
In response to the air quality dip, the NEA began issuing daily haze advisories on September 4. These advisories include a 24 hour PSI forecast to help the public plan outdoor activities. Air quality is categorized as moderate when the PSI is between 51 and 100, and unhealthy when it ranges from 101 to 200.
