South Korea and France have agreed to create a cooperation channel focusing on trade, supply chains, and strategic industries. The agreement was reached during talks in Paris between South Korean Industry Minister Kim Jung-kwan and French Minister Roland Lescure, who oversees economy, finance, industry, energy, and digital sovereignty. These discussions took place on the sidelines of President Lee Jae Myung's visit to France.
The two nations will launch a ministerial level channel known as the strategic industrial dialogue to address industrial policy and trade issues. Minister Kim stated that the government intends to use this dialogue to resolve challenges faced by Korean companies in France and to seek new projects in advanced industries.
During the meeting, Minister Kim requested that France improve its electric vehicle subsidy scheme to ensure fair treatment for Korean made EVs. Additionally, Kim welcomed the European Union's Industrial Acceleration Act and asked for French support in securing treatment for South Korea equal to that of EU member states as a trusted industrial partner.
