South Korean police on Tuesday revealed the identity of Zheng Changsheng, a 31 year old Chinese man suspected of killing and dismembering a 25 year old female Chinese student. The Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency posted Zheng's name, age, and mug shots on its website, where they will remain until October 1. A review committee decided to make the identity public due to the brutal nature of the crime and the public interest in preventing similar incidents.

Zheng is accused of murdering the student, who had taken his class, at his home in Gyeongsan on August 20. He allegedly mutilated her body and abandoned the remains in multiple locations, including Gyeongju and Gunpo. Zheng was formally arrested on August 25 and faces charges including murder, mutilating and concealing a corpse, and obstruction of official duties.

Investigators believe Zheng attempted to mislead the police by filing a false missing person report. He is also accused of disguising himself as a woman and traveling to a train station to turn off the victim's mobile phone. Police plan to refer Zheng to the prosecution by Friday.
