  • A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.

Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.

Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.

The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.

Spotify announced on Tuesday that it will launch a new label called AI Persona starting in mid September. This badge will identify artist profiles that represent synthetic identities generated by artificial intelligence rather than real people. The labels will appear on artist banners, in About sections, within search results, and next to songs in playlists. Spotify stated that the move is intended to increase transparency after listeners expressed concerns about profiles that appear human but are actually AI generated.

Starting Tuesday, creators can self disclose their AI Persona status through Spotify for Artists. The company will also use human review and AI based research tools to identify profiles using photorealistic AI generated imagery. Profiles flagged by Spotify will be notified and given the opportunity to self disclose or appeal the decision. Listeners will be able to see if an artist self disclosed their status or if Spotify identified the profile through its own review process.

By default, AI Persona profiles will be excluded from editorial and algorithmic recommendations unless a user specifically follows the creator. Spotify clarified that the badge applies to the public identity of the profile and not to the specific method used to produce the music. This follows a previous effort in April to launch a Verified by Spotify label to distinguish authentic human artists from synthetic ones.

Outlets with a center lean focused on the company's goal of increasing transparency and the technical implementation of the labels. A center left source framed the move as a response to previous failures of the verification system and noted that Spotify has historically been open to AI music due to its profitability. A center right source emphasized the specific tools and timelines for the rollout and the appeal process for artists.
