- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
Spotify will introduce a new system in September to identify artist profiles whose public identities are generated by artificial intelligence. Profiles identified as an AI Persona will be excluded from most personalized, editorial, and algorithmic recommendations by default. Starting in mid September, an AI Persona badge will appear on relevant artist profiles, in search results, and alongside tracks in playlists to notify listeners that the identity may not represent a real person.
Beginning August 11, artists can self disclose their AI status through Spotify for Artists. Spotify will also conduct its own reviews of profiles, focusing on those that meet certain audience thresholds, to identify photorealistic AI generated names and imagery. Artists flagged by Spotify will be notified and given the chance to appeal the decision or disclose their status. The company also plans to allow listeners to report suspected AI Personas in the future.
Spotify clarified that this policy focuses on the public identity of the artist rather than the use of AI in the music creation process itself. The company has already implemented AI Credits for track creation and a Verified by Spotify system to signal authentic human artists. Center leaning coverage frames the move as a broader effort to increase transparency on the platform. Center right leaning coverage emphasizes the company's goal of ensuring users can trust that artists are who they claim to be and its desire to prioritize authentic artists building professional careers.
