The Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF) limited photographer access to the glass facade of its headquarters on Thursday. This restriction follows a photograph taken by O Globo photographer Brenno Carvalho, who captured ministers talking and laughing through a gap in a curtain after a plenary session on Wednesday. The image featured ministers Alexandre de Moraes, Gilmar Mendes, and Cristiano Zanin facing forward and laughing, with Court President Luiz Edson Fachin seen from behind. On Thursday afternoon, security personnel prevented photojournalists from approaching the windows and explicitly told them not to aim their cameras through the glass.
These events occur amid a crisis involving messages from former banker Daniel Vorcaro, owner of Banco Master, which name Alexandre de Moraes as an interlocutor. Tensions within the court escalated on Thursday when Moraes requested that Minister André Mendonça be investigated for abuse of authority, administrative improbity, and crimes of responsibility regarding the handling of the Banco Master and INSS cases. Additionally, President Fachin ordered Mendonça, Moraes, Attorney General Paulo Gonet, and Federal Police Director General Andrei Rodrigues to provide information within five days regarding a Federal Police report on the Vorcaro messages.
