- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.

A new study published in the scientific journal Nature Communications reveals that the human brain processes the experience of artistic beauty through two distinct neural pathways. One pathway handles the conceptual content of an image, such as whether it depicts a landscape, an object, or a figure. The second pathway processes the hedonic value, which is the sensory pleasure derived from the experience, using the same circuits the brain uses to respond to money or food.
Researchers conducted the study by having 34 volunteers view 96 traditional Chinese watercolor paintings while inside a 7T magnetic resonance imaging scanner. This technology allowed the team to detect small variations in blood flow that indicate brain activity. To analyze the participants' subsequent evaluations of the art, the researchers utilized collaborative filtering algorithms similar to those used by recommendation services like Spotify and Netflix. These algorithms helped identify hidden patterns of agreement among the participants.
The findings suggest that while these two dimensions combine to form a judgment of beauty, the brain keeps them separate. Visual content is interpreted through familiar visual pathways, while emotional value is decoded in deeper regions of the brain associated with reward and pleasure.
